The role develops engaging, inclusive, outcomes‑based learning experiences; fosters critical thinking, effective communication, and information literacy; and assesses student learning in alignment with NCCCS standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in English with at least 18 graduate hours in English.
• Effective oral and written communication in diverse settings.
• Proficient use of instructional technology, LMS, computers, AV equipment.
• Ability to teach in multiple modalities: F2F, online, blended, hybrid, hyflex, remote.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach curriculum and workforce continuing education courses (composition, literature, developmental English) as assigned.
• Develop and deliver high‑quality instruction using evidence‑based practices and appropriate tech.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Master’s degree in English or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English.

Knowledge and Skills:
Effective oral and written communication in individual and group settings.Proficient preparation, review, and exchanges of written, electronic, and visual materials related to instruction and college operations.Competent use of instructional technology, learning management systems, computers,audiovisual equipment, and standard office equipment. Ability to teach in multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face, online, blended, hybrid, hyflex, and in remote campus environments as assigned. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Physical Demands:
Remain stationary for extended periods of time, and/or moveacross classrooms, offices, and physical and virtual campuses. Transport instructional supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions & Environment:
Work is performed primarily in classroom, office, laboratory, and virtual learning environments. May require evening, weekend, or off-campus assignments and travel to off-campus sites for instructional, professional, or college-related activities. Position Description

Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month English Instructor.

The instructor is responsible for providing high-quality English instruction in courses that support student achievement, academic success, and workforce readiness. The instructor develops and delivers engaging, inclusive, and outcomes-based learning experiences; fosters critical thinking, effective communication, and information literacy skills; and assesses student learning. In support of the mission of the North Carolina Community College System and the college, the instructor participates in curriculum development, assessment, advising, institutional service, and professional development activities while serving diverse student populations and promoting student retention, completion, and lifelong learning

Duties include:

Instruction and Student Learning

• Teach curriculum and workforce continuing education courses, including composition, literature, developmental English, and related courses as assigned.
• Develop and deliver relevant, high-quality instruction using evidence-based teaching practices and appropriate instructional technologies.
• Create and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with approved course outcomes and college standards.
• Evaluate student performance in a timely and consistent manner and maintain accurate academic records.
• Provide meaningful feedback that supports student learning, academic growth, and achievement of course competencies.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment that promotes engagement and success.
• Incorporate critical thinking, research, information literacy, and effective written and oral communication skills into instruction.

Student Support and Advising

• Maintain regular office hours and be available to assist students with academic concerns and course-related questions.
• Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, educational goals, transfer opportunities, and career pathways as assigned.
• Refer students to appropriate campus resources and support services when needed.
• Support student retention, persistence, completion, and success initiatives.

Curriculum Development and Assessment

• Participate in the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum, course materials, and instructional resources.
• Collaborate with other faculty, academic leaders, and community members to ensure course quality and alignment with program, college, and state requirements as well as community needs.
• Participate in student learning outcomes data collection and analysis, and use the results to improve instruction and curriculum.
• Ensure compliance with North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) curriculum standards and accreditation requirements.

College Service and Institutional Engagement

• Serve on department, division, and college committees and task forces as assigned.
• Participate in employee meetings, convocations, and graduations.
• Assist with student recruitment, orientation, registration, and retention activities.
• Support appropriate partnerships with schools, universities, and businesses.
• Help achieve the college’s mission, strategic goals, and initiatives.

Professional Development

• Remain current in the education field and in the discipline through scholarship and professional development (instructional methods, technology, and best practices).
• Participate in required professional development activities and institutional training.
• Maintain qualifications / credentials (college, accreditation, and state).

Compliance and Administrative Responsibilities

• Adhere to all college policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Submit grades, attendance records, and documentation accurately and on time.
