Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara seeks a friendly host to greet guests, manage reservations, and guide diners to local attractions.

You will support restaurant operations, maintain clean service areas, and help ensure a smooth guest experience, with opportunities to learn about coastal California hospitality.

Candidates should have strong communication, be able to multitask, and be at least 21 to serve alcoholic beverages; prior hospitality experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Prior host experience preferred.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period or for an entire shift.
• Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 10lbs.
• Must be able to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous experience in hospitality industry preferred.
• Knowledge of local activities and attractions for restaurant guests.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests when entering the restaurant with superior customer service.
• Answer phone and record reservations for large parties.
• Recommend local restaurants and activities to guests.
• Thank every guest upon departure and invite them to return.
• Ensure guest greetings and smooth operation of food and beverage service.
• Maintain clean and clear service areas.
• Oversee restaurant during Manager/Supervisor absence.
• Familiar with POS and manual system procedures.
• Keep work area free of hazards and obstructions.
• Perform other duties as required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet guests when entering the restaurant with superior customer service.
• Answer phone and record reservations for large parties.
• Able to make recommendations for guests to other local restaurants and activities.
• Thank every guest upon departure, invite them to return, and wish them a fond farewell.
• Ensure each guest is greeted and that all food and beverage operations are running smoothly.
• Clean and clear service areas.
• Oversee all aspects of restaurant during absence of Manager and/or Supervisor.
• Be familiar with operation of P.O.S. system and manual system procedures.
• Ensure work area is clean and clear of standing water, debris or any objects that can obstruct the job duties from being performed safely, efficiently and effectively.
• Perform other duties as required.

CA food handler's card is required or the ability to obtain with the first 30 days of employment.

RSB card is required or the ability to obtain with the first 30 days of employment and be minimum of 21 years old.
