Kids for the Future seeks a Part-Time Equipment Operator to run trucks and heavy equipment at Gem County Solid Waste. This 19 hours/week role involves light vehicle maintenance, waste inspection, and guiding the public to transfer areas.

SALARY: $17.59/hour

SUMMARY
The primary function of an employee in this class is to operate trucks, assorted heavy equipment, and county vehicles. The employee will perform light mechanical work on county vehicles and heavy equipment, inspect waste, and direct the public to designated waste dump areas. Must be able to communicate with the general public as this position has a high level of public interaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Transport solid waste bins from onsite locations to alternate landfills.
· Operate vehicles and heavy equipment in accordance with basic functions of the job.
· Operate scale, cash register, credit card machine and have understanding of the prices for chargeable items brought in to the transfer station.
· Oversee Community Service programs in connection with other Gem County employees.
· Service county vehicles and heavy equipment (oil change, brake jobs, light mechanical, etc.) and inspect vehicles and heavy equipment prior to returning them to primary operator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
· Heavy equipment operation and proper safety precautions.
· Light equipment maintenance.
Ability to:
· Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Operate cash register, receive money, count change, and close out register and credit card machine at the end of the shift.
· Drive to specific work site locations throughout the work day.
· Work in adverse weather conditions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
· C.D.L., Class A or B license with air brake endorsement.
· Must be able to pass random U.A. testing.
· Must be available to work various shifts Monday - Saturday.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Enter and exit all heavy equipment (elevated cabs and narrow steps).
· Lift 80 pounds, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling and carrying.
