The City of Hendersonville, NC is seeking a skilled maintenance worker for water and wastewater facilities. Responsibilities include performing various repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This position requires good physical health and the ability to work outside in varying conditions. Candidates must have at least two years of relevant trade experience and a willingness to participate in the city's safety program.
PT $21.75/hour - Closes Monday May 9th at 5pm
Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City’s water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, facilities, heavy duty and specialized equipment and grounds. An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair activities associated with City-owned water and wastewater pump stations, buildings, facilities and grounds. Work includes performing various maintenance tasks such as electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs to pump stations, buildings, grounds and related facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and is reviewed for lasting quality, effectiveness, appearance and functionality through conference, inspection and records.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; and minimum of two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled to skilled trades work such as plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work in this classification is defined as heavy work requiring the physical exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, working, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines and motor vehicles, determining accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing surroundings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise from motorized maintenance equipment, vibrations, atmospheric conditions, and oils, greases, fumes, dirt, sharps from metal and glass, and biting or stinging insects and possibly reptiles. Employee must wear hearing/visual protection while performing most field work and may be exposed to blood borne pathogens requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
