Description of Work

This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.

This position performs field and office engineering for the maintenance operations that are overseen through the District 1 Engineer's Office in Division 13. This position will serve various duties including but not limited to working in the survey party, project inspector, and preparing erosion control plans and permits. This position will also assist the county maintenance engineers at various times. This position is required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience in conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards/codes, and specifications.
  • Experience in maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
  • Knowledge and skilled in the use of computer equipment, iPad, and software.
  • Experience in performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.

Additional Expectations

General knowledge of surveying and methods, equipment and materials used in highway construction; general knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and inspection procedures, ability to take good notes and good communication skills.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
