Job summary

Tri-County Special Education is seeking a part-time custodian for a 10-month assignment. The role involves daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance across classrooms and common areas.

The position requires ability to lift 50 pounds, operate minor maintenance tasks, and coordinate with supervisors. Work is performed under general supervision with overtime applicable as defined by policy.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate's Degree in vocational expertise or
  • Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Custodian shall have the ability to work under limited direct supervision, while accepting the direction of general supervision.
  • Experience in the areas of stripping floors; waxing floors; mopping floors; painting walls; repairing walls, including minor drywall work; minor plumbing and electrical work; moving furniture; coordination of contractual maintenance for larger jobs; ordering and storage of maintenance supplies and grounds maintenance including mowing and trimming grounds.
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Shall be responsible for building and grounds maintenance and minor repairs as well as making recommendations for physical maintenance and repairs by outside contractors.
  • Physical ability to perform responsibilities as listed below.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeping & Mopping Daily in classrooms, All Purpose room, restrooms, hallways, entrances, cafeteria kitchen.
  • Waxing & Buffing all areas of the school building as needed; waxing every 6-9 weeks.
  • Vacuuming carpeted offices or classrooms daily.
  • Dusting window sills once a week in offices.
  • Scrub and disinfect bathroom floors, clean fixtures, replenish supplies; daily restroom cleaning.
  • Emptying waste cans and removing trash daily.
  • Sweep sidewalks, shovels, salts walks, driveways, parking areas, steps as appropriate.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed in offices and school.
  • Maintain building exit fixtures as needed.
  • Clean all windows in building three times a year (inside and outside).
  • Clean up coffee pot area daily; clean walls and doorways of fingerprints.
  • Replacing of filters on heating and air conditioning units as needed.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Custodian shall complete all other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director or designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10-month assignment as defined by contractual agreements. The work day will be considered a (1.5) hour day. Overtime will be paid for all work hours completed in excess of (40) forty hours in any given week. Sick, vacation, personal, and holidays will not count toward over time calculations.

REPORTS: As assigned: Building Principal; Maintenance Supervisor

Performance Responsibilities
  • a) Sweeping & Mopping Daily:
    • Classrooms
    • All Purpose room
    • Restrooms-School & Offices
    • Hallways and entrances
    • Cafeteria-Kitchen
  • b) Waxing & Buffing:
    • All areas of the school building as needed; waxed at least every 6-9-weeks.
  • c) Vacuuming carpeted offices or classrooms daily
  • d) Dusting window sills once a week in offices.
  • e) Scrub and disinfect bathroom floors, clean fixtures, replenish supplies in restroom (toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand soap), and clean water fountains daily
  • f) Emptying all waste cans and removing trash from the building and placing it in the dumpster daily
  • g) Sweep sidewalks, shovel and salt walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
  • h) Replace light bulbs as needed in offices and school
  • i) Maintain building exit fixtures as needed
  • j) Clean all windows in building three times a year (inside and outside)
  • k) Clean up coffee pot area daily
  • l) Clean walls and doorways of fingerprints as needed.
  • m) Replacing of filters on heating and air conditioning units as needed
  • n) Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Teachers shall be responsible for dusting furniture in classroom
  • Custodian shall complete all other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director or designee in line with the maintenance, safety, welfare, of student and institutional needs.
  • This may include a temporary assignment outside the purview of normal daily assignments, such as working with a student.
