Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers, Inc. Dorchester location is seeking Part-Time Residential Counselors to support children and youth, ages 8-15, during transitions back to families or independence in a safe, structured home environment.

Responsibilities include supervising daily living, coordinating with staff, participating in de-escalation as needed, and complying with CORI checks. Evening/weekend shifts are required; a High School diploma and driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.

The Home for Little Wanderers' Harrington House is looking for Part-Time Residential Counselors to care for children in their Dorchester location. In the group home, children or adolescents, ranging in age from 8-13 are in transition back to their families or going on to independent living, but need support in order to make a successful transition back to their communities. The schedules available are as follows:

Fri – Sun 6AM-2PM- 24 hours total or

Fri – Sun 2 PM- 10 PM 24 hours total

The program provides residential treatment by offering a safe, structured home-like, living environment. The children participate fully in the community through school attendance and extracurricular activities. Additionally, the programs offer clinical services, health services, psychiatric services, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case management services.

How You'll Be Making A Difference

• In the group home, children or adolescents, ranging in age from 8-15 are in transition back to their families or going on to independent living, but need support in order to make a successful transition back to their communities.
• The program provides residential treatment by offering a safe, structured home-like, living environment. The children participate fully in the community through school attendance and extracurricular activities.
• Theprograms offer clinical services, health services, psychiatric services, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case management services.
• Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, the Residential Counselor will provide safe, supportive environment for children.
• Communicate with other counselors from previous shifts to ensure the continued flow of information and coordinate activity log of daily living.

What to Expect in the Role

• Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID
• Being physically active for an 8-10 hour shift
• Participating in verbal de-escalation and physical intervention with youth
• Multi-tasking in a changing and fast-paced treatment environment
• Receiving and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process
• Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred
• Valid driver’s license required

Physical Requirements

• Continuous walking, standing, climbing, lifting of objects for 6 – 7 hour shifts. Ability to effectively restrain using proper TCI techniques when needed.
