Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers Harrington House in Dorchester is seeking Part-Time Residential Counselors to support youths aged 8-13 in transition back to families or independent living. Shifts run Fri–Sun: 6AM–2PM or 2PM–10PM, with a safe, structured home-like environment and community activities.

Responsibilities include de‑escalation, aftercare planning, and coordination with supervisors and other counselors while meeting program expectations and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, supportive environment for children in a group home.
• Coordinate daily living activities and log information across shifts.
• Engage children in school attendance and extracurricular activities.
• Respond to behavior with de-escalation techniques and TC I safety protocols.
• Maintain communication with Residential Supervisor and fellow counselors.

The Home for Little Wanderers' Harrington House is looking for Part-Time Residential Counselors to care for children in their Dorchester location. In the group home, children or adolescents, ranging in age from 8-13 are in transition back to their families or going on to independent living, but need support in order to make a successful transition back to their communities. The schedules available are as follows:

Fri-Sun 6AM-2PM- 24 hours total

Fri-Sun 2 PM- 10 PM 24 hours total

The program provides residential treatment by offering a safe, structured home-like, living environment. The children participate fully in the community through school attendance and extracurricular activities. Additionally, the programs offer clinical services, health services, psychiatric services, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case management services.

How You'll Be Making A Difference

• In the group home, children or adolescents, ranging in age from 8-15 are in transition back to their families or going on to independent living, but need support in order to make a successful transition back to their communities.
• The program provides residential treatment by offering a safe, structured home-like, living environment. The children participate fully in the community through school attendance and extracurricular activities.
• The programs offer clinical services, health services, psychiatric services, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case management services.
• Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, the Residential Counselor will provide safe, supportive environment for children.
• Communicate with other counselors from previous shifts to ensure the continued flow of information and coordinate activity log of daily living.

What To Expect In The Role

• Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID
• Being physically active for an 8-10 hour shift
• Participating in verbal de-escalation and physical intervention with youth
• Multi-tasking in a changing and fast-paced treatment environment
• Receiving and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process
• Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred
• Valid driver's license required

Physical Requirements

• Continuous walking, standing, climbing, lifting of objects for 6-7 hour shifts. Ability to effectively restrain using proper TCI techniques when needed.
