Job summary

Lehigh Carbon Community College is seeking a part-time Career Specialist to assist students in exploring careers, developing employability skills, and pursuing job opportunities across campus and satellite locations.

The role requires collaboration with faculty and staff, delivery of career services, résumé support, interview coaching, and ongoing engagement with students to promote career readiness. Some evenings required and travel to LCCC sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PAChild Abuse history, Act 114 FBI Clearance fingerprinting).
  • Two years of direct experience in career development or humanresources/recruiting required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, administer, and manage the full cycle of the FirstDestination Survey in full compliance with National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) practices and standards, includingdata collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist the Director of Career Development with dailyoperations, department initiatives, and project coordination.
  • Create, process, and track department requisitions, purchaseorders, and financial/purchasing documentation.
  • Promote student development by providing a variety of servicesto assist LCCC students at main campus and satellite locations intheir career exploration, achievement of career-relatedcompetencies, and job search.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and studentsuccess staff members to enhance students’ awareness, encourageexploration, and refine their goals, as appropriate.
  • Promote students’ career readiness by supporting theirachievement of identified career-specific competencies. Collaboratewith faculty, academic advisors, and student support & successstaff to assist students in identifying learning opportunities thatwill most directly support achievement of these competencies.

Job Title

The Career Specialist provides a variety of services and support toassist LCCC students in all phases of their career exploration,achievement of career-related competencies, and job search.Responsibilities include working directly with students to developstrategies that enhance their career development goals andemployability. The Career Specialist coordinates all workactivities with college faculty and staff to support studentdevelopment through the promotion of available services, encouragesstudent engagement, and facilitates achievement of the student’scareer goals. Will require travel to LCCC sites. Some evening hoursare required. Reports directly to the Director of CareerDevelopment and Civic Engagement.

Work Schedule: 28 hours per week, Monday throughFriday

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist students as per their career goals with résumédevelopment, cover letters, interviewing skills, and job searchstrategies for alumni, non-credit students, and various programs ofstudy.
  • Assist faculty with preparation and set-up of ePortfolio'templates' and classroom assignments.
  • Manage and facilitate ePortfolio requirements in studentemployment.
  • Maintain a database of student and faculty participation in theePortfolio program.
  • Plan, implement, and encourage student participation in anannual ePortfolio Showcase.
  • Stay current with employment trends.
  • Actively facilitate and support student learning by applyingstudent development theory in the implementation of allactivities.
  • Foster students’ awareness of career development servicesthrough a variety of methods including, but not limited to,mailings, emails, and classroom visits.
  • Collaborate with Career Development staff to coordinate andpresent a variety of in-person and virtual workshops and classroompresentations to promote career success.
  • Document students’ career/job placement status and progress,maintaining current notes in student files.
  • Complete and submit periodic progress and outcomes reports asrequested.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of the Career Centerthrough partnerships within the School of Student Support &Success, academic departments, and other campus offices, asapplicable.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education

Certifications

Work Experience
  • Two years of direct experience in career development or humanresources/recruiting required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Computer literacy is required including a strong background inMicrosoft Office.
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, andcommunication skills, strong sense of initiative, motivation, andself-direction.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to interact positively withstudents, employers, faculty, and staff in a professionalmanner.
  • A positive attitude, patience, service orientation, and anawareness of the needs and concerns of varied populations.
  • Ability to lead by example; plan, organize, and implementmultiple projects and see projects through to successfulconclusion.
  • Ability to function well in an atmosphere that promotesteamwork as well as initiative and independence.
  • Must possess a high level of commitment to continuousprofessional growth in skills and knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education.
  • Spanish bi-lingual.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to effectively communicate, perceive, and exchangeinformation with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls usinghands, arms, or adaptive equipment.
  • Ability to safely lift, transport, or move objects up to 15 lbsregularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Vision capabilities sufficient to view screens, read printedmaterials, and observe work environments (with or without assistivedevices).
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet tomoderate.
