Job summary

The Hoffman Estates Park District is hiring a Bus Driver to safely transport participants and staff to program locations.

A valid Illinois CDL with Passenger Endorsement and a clean driving record are required; you must follow safety rules and assist passengers. Drivers are scheduled as needed, including School Days Off programs, and paid $22–$28 per hour. Responsibilities include vehicle upkeep, assisting riders, and following district policies.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Illinois CDL license with a Passenger Endorsement.
• Driving record must meet District requirements for operating District vehicles.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable background screenings.
• Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
• Ability to safely operate equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
• Demonstrates the ability to interact with the public and fellow employees in a polite, professional, and businesslike manner.
• Willingness to become familiar with and adhere to all Employee Safety Manuals.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and transport program participants in the most economical way regarding time and mileage.
• Wear a safety belt and give verbal instructions to passengers to do the same.
• Assist participants on and off vehicle when necessary.
• Observe all specifications regarding personal appearances, daily vehicle check, driver report sheets, time sheets and emergency procedures.
• Follow the written policy and procedure manual for transportation program and observe all regulations.
• Follow specific instructions from the Program Manager regarding special outings and field trips.
• Be familiar with the operation of a wheelchair lift and provide special assistance to non-ambulatory participants so that they may gain access to and from the bus (in the event it is necessary to borrow a vehicle with such equipment).
• Refuel the vehicle at the completion of service.
• Maintain a clean vehicle including the interior and exterior. Do a sweep of the vehicle after every trip to be certain on one has left any items behind. Empty trash bags after each trip.
• Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.
• Follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.

Supervision Exercised

The Bus Driver is not a supervisory position.

Safety, Health, and Loss Control

• Be familiar with the Employee Safety Manual.
• Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
• Responsible for providing all injury, illness and health information required by the Hoffman Estates Park District in its effort to assign tasks within an individuals capacity to prevent potential injury/illness.
• Responsible for notification of injury or illness relating to a task assignment as described with the Employee Safety Manual.
