The City of Graham is seeking a part-time afterschool program staff member to supervise and lead activities for Kindergarten through 8th grade. You will support daily program operations, help with homework, and create a safe, engaging environment after school.
Under supervision, you will plan crafts, sports, games, and field trips, monitor behavior, and communicate safety concerns to the Youth Programs Supervisor. Prior experience with school-aged children is preferred.
Under immediate supervision, perform a variety of activities for the daily group programming, discipline, direct supervision and management of children in an afterschool program. Should act as a role model to school age children (Kindergarten-8th grades) by exemplifying the Vision and Mission of the Graham Recreation and Parks Department, specifically the Programs Division, while conducting age-appropriate activities in a safe, fun, and comfortable atmosphere.
An employee in this class completes administrative tasks and field work as related to an afterschool program. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Youth Programs Supervisor and general supervision of the Centers Supervisor. Work is reviewed for ability to follow directions and timely, accurate completion of assigned tasks. Positions in this classification are not exempt from the overtime pay requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Work in this position is light work (exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects). Physical activities include balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, turning, reaching, standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions for the purpose of instructing/leading recreation programs. Position may require operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed. The employee must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data/figures and is exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids.
This position is part-time beginning in August with 3-5 hr. weekday afternoon shifts from August-May (not to exceed 40 hrs./wk.). During teacher workdays, hours may expand to 8 hours per day.
