Job summary

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a Psychometrist to administer and score standardized psychological and neuropsychological tests under supervision, in a busy hospital setting in Minneapolis. You will observe, score, and document results, and prepare narrative and summary reports for multiple patient age groups.

Under licensed supervision, you will ensure data quality, communicate findings to the care team, and assist in trainee instruction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or closely related field.
  • Coursework relevant to position (e.g., psychological assessment, clinical psychology, statistics, neuroscience).
  • Experience in a hospital or mental health care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Administer standardized psychological and neuropsychological tests under supervision.
  • Observe and interpret patient performance and data quality.
  • Score tests per manuals and document results.
  • Compile results into summaries and reports of observations.
  • Administer tests in patients' native languages with interpreters when needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure comprehensive psychometry services across units.
  • Instruct and support trainees under supervision.

JOB DETAILS

Department: Psychology and CAPS

FTE: 1.0 (80hours per pay period)

Workdays: Monday - Friday (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)

Purpose of this position

Under clinical supervision of a licensed psychologist, neuropsychologist or other appropriately qualified health care provider, performs direct patient care and work of routine difficulty in administering, scoring and compiling results of standardized psychological and neuropsychological tests.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer interactive standardized psychological and neuropsychological tests, including measures of cognitive, academic, verbal, visuospatial, memory, and motor abilities, as well as inventories of personality and psychological functioning to child and adult patients, under the supervision of licensed health care providers or researchers appropriately qualified to utilize such clinical measures
  • Observe patients during testing process and make judgments about ability and/or level of function, as well as validity of data obtained
  • Utilize careful attention to detail and appropriate judgment to score standardized psychological and neuropsychological measures in accordance with test manual guidelines and clinical supervision from licensed providers
  • Accurately compile results into a summary score sheet reflecting the patient's test scores
  • Compile written reports of behavioral observations of patient made during the test administration
  • Administer interactive tests to patients using their native language, with the aid of professional medical interpreters
  • Collaborate with psychometry colleagues and supervising licensed health care providers to ensure appropriate inpatient psychometry services are provided across medical, rehabilitation and psychiatric hospital units
  • Instruct and support Psychology trainees in administration and scoring of standardized psychological and neuropsychological test measures, in collaboration with and under the supervision of a licensed psychologist and/or neuropsychologist
  • Consistently provide patient and family centered care by sensitively responding to patient needs, communicating with colleagues, and maintaining a professional and patient friendly clinic environment
  • Assists families with screening forms
  • Initiates emergency response for medical emergencies and safety risks
  • Simple appointment scheduling and limited registration tasks as needed
  • Complete file management duties as needed to ensure secure storage of patient data, in accordance with organizational, state and federal guidelines
  • Stock adequate number of test forms and materials in test administration offices and other appropriate locations in clinic
  • Complete prior authorization forms as needed
  • Assist in maintaining regulatory standards for clinic/hospital accreditation by health management organizations, internship program accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA), and state licensure
  • Attends mandatory department meetings, in-services, and work-related educational programs
  • Ensures patient confidentiality at all times

  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in psychology or closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Completion of coursework relevant to position (e.g., psychological assessment, clinical psychology, statistics, neuroscience)
  • Experience in a hospital or mental health care setting

-OR-

  • An approved equivalent combination of training and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months of experience working as a psychometrist, administering standardized psychological tests
  • Familiarity with neurological and psychological conditions

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to build rapport with patients and families
  • Ability to work collaboratively with licensed health care providers in a fast paced clinical setting
