Job summary

State of Maryland is seeking a licensed psychologist to lead and coordinate psychology services within the DPSCS mental health program. The role requires a Doctoral degree in psychology and at least one year of correctional experience, with eligibility for telework after the probation period.

The ideal candidate will hold Maryland licensure and work collaboratively with other program leaders to address policies, litigation needs, and program goals for the incarcerated population.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D) in Psychology.
• At least 1 year of experience in a correctional mental health setting.
• Licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland State Board prior to permanent appointment.

• Collaborate with stakeholders regarding ongoing litigation.
• Duties as assigned by the Director and/or Deputy of Mental Health.

Position Duties

This position is eligible for 1 day of telework after the probation period.

• Direct and coordinate all psychology activities of the mental health program within the DPSCS region.
• Collect and review institutional monthly statistical reports to determine the status of the region's mental health program activities, ensuring timeliness, workload assessment, accuracy, and satisfactory performance of each clinician.
• Oversee peer reviews and audits of performance of mental health personnel within the region.
• Consult with other program directors, managers, or outside agency officials on policies, plans, goals of the mental health program and needs of the incarcerated population.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders regarding ongoing litigation.
• Duties as assigned by the Director and/or Deputy of Mental Health.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications and license requirements to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

• Education: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D, Psy.D) in Psychology.
• Experience: One year of experience working within a correctional mental health department.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service.

Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit.

Special Requirements

The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English, effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings. Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus.
