State of Maryland is seeking a Social Worker, Advanced, Criminal Justice in Howard County/Jessup to provide licensed clinical mental health services to incarcerated individuals using assessment, evaluation, intervention and treatment regimens.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, documentation in EPHR, and collaboration with other professionals. Eligibility requires a clinical social work license and relevant experience.

POSITION DUTIES

The PSCS Social Worker, Advanced, Criminal Justice performs the full performance level of the professional counseling work, at the Licensed Clinical Social Worker level, providing counseling services to clients with mental disorders by using assessment, evaluation, intervention, rehabilitation, and treatment regimens. This position is additionally responsible for evaluating incarcerated individuals on suicide precautions and developing, maintaining, and conducting special programs and/or special programs for specific populations (e.g. the mental health tier). Functioning As An Independently Licensed Mental Health Professional, The Social Worker Advanced, Criminal Justice Is Responsible For Providing Mental Health Services To Incarcerated Individuals Within a Defined Population Of a Correctional Facility.

The Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

• Assesses the incarcerated individual’s situation to determine the appropriate services using evaluation, intervention, and treatment regimens
• Intervenes in crisis situations to de-escalate the situation and provide acute care using suicide prevention planning and crisis intervention techniques.
• Develop treatment plans and provides treatment to inmates who have significant mental or emotional disorders through the use of individual and/or group counseling.
• Develops and implements behavioral management plans for inmates that are disruptive to the operation of Patuxent
• Refers incarcerated individuals for other services such as psychiatric care, inpatient mental health services, case management planning, medical evaluations, addictions services, etc.
• Documents services rendered to the inmate in the EPHR in accordance with established procedures.
• Reviews charts/EPHR as needed and assigned by department supervisor.
• Adheres to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and participates in continuing professional development.
• May collaborate with other professionals in carrying out research in correctional work.
• Conducts individual counseling in accordance with the needs of the assigned population
• Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health or Designee (Deputy Director, Regional Director) and/or by the institutional Supervisor.

• Maintains statistics to summarize the daily psychological services completed.
• Participates in interdisciplinary meetings as needed.
• Serves on special work groups and projects as assigned.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health or Designee (Deputy Director, Regional Director) and/or by the institutional Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

Experience: Three years of experience providing clinical and therapeutic or other social work services through the application of the principles, methods and procedures of professional social work to clients requiring rehabilitative counseling or forensic social work services.

Notes

• A Doctoral degree in social work from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology or Welfare fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

• Employees are required to be licensed as a certified social worker-clinical by the State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the hiring department.
• Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

• Employees are required to be licensed as a certified social worker-clinical by the State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Employees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the hiring department. Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal.
• Employees must complete an approved training program in group counseling techniques.
• Employees may be required to complete the Level I Counseling course certified by the Maryland AIDS Professional Education Center.
• Employees must qualify for and successfully complete the Entry Level Training Academy operated by the Police and Correctional Training Commissions.
