Job summary

Patuxent Institution is a maximum-security state prison providing remediation programs and services. The Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional position provides direct psychological services to incarcerated individuals under supervision of a licensed psychologist.

Key responsibilities include risk and diagnostic assessments, direct psychotherapeutic services (CBT group and individual therapy), crisis intervention, and supervision of unlicensed staff along with administrative duties.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university acceptable to the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; ability to communicate respectfully with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or another language is a plus.

Position Duties

Patuxent Institution is a maximum‑security state prison designed to provide remediation programs and services to male and female incarcerated individuals based upon current best practices. The Psychology Associate Doctorate, Correctional position is an unlicensed level of professional work performed under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The main purpose of this position is to provide direct psychological services to incarcerated individuals in one or more programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct risk assessments, diagnostic assessments, and other psychological assessments as assigned.
  • Provide direct psychotherapeutic services to incarcerated individuals, including cognitive‑behavioral group psychotherapy, individual therapy, and crisis intervention.
  • Engage in research‑related activities, supervise and train unlicensed members of the psychology staff, and provide administrative supervision of other professional and clerical employees.

Selection Process

Applicants must submit complete information by the closing date. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible employment list for at least one year.
