Job Description

Purpose of Position: To oversee the administration of the hospital's APA-Accredited Psychology Internship Program and provide direct patient care on the Child Adolescent Psychiatric Service (CAPS).

Clinical Responsibilities
  1. Conduct initial assessments and mental status examinations.
  2. Consult psychiatrists if mental status indicates risk of dangerous behavior.
  3. Conduct comprehensive assessments including health, developmental, educational, and psychiatric histories.
  4. Interview patients and families.
  5. Establish DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnoses where appropriate.
  6. Complete all necessary documentation.
  7. Develop treatment plans with the mental health team.
  8. Provide individual, group, and/or family psychotherapy based on theoretical models.
  9. Provide clinical consultations on Medical Units.
  10. Supervise staff, interns, externs, and residents as requested.
  11. Serve as a clinical consultant to staff.
  12. Deliver didactic lectures to interns, students, and residents.
  13. Document progress notes and chart contacts for each patient.
  14. Participate as an integral member of the CAPS multidisciplinary team, carrying a caseload equivalent to a part-time clinician (3 days/week).
  15. Present at unit case conferences and journal clubs.
  16. Attend Psychiatry/Psychology Grand Rounds and departmental inservices.
  17. Coordinate interactions and documentation with APA, including the Self Study for site visits.
  18. Manage recruitment, planning, and organization of the APA-accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship program across the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED.
  2. Two (2) years of post-licensure experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience, or three (3) years of post-licensure experience.
  3. Completion of NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three months of appointment.
