An established healthcare provider is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Specialist to join their Bariatric Program. This role focuses on providing psychological support and evaluations for bariatric patients, ensuring they are prepared for surgery and addressing their psychosocial needs post-operation. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Function as the Behavioral Health Specialist for the Bariatric Program.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Staff Psychologist will work collaboratively with Bariatric/Weight Loss Program providing psychological consultation, support, counseling, and intervention to bariatric patients.
2. Completes all pertaining documentation, Databases, Contact/Progress Notes, Referral/Disposition Summaries, and other necessary paperwork.
3. Performs psychological evaluation for the preoperative bariatric surgery patient and provides a written evaluation and interpretation of data as to the patient’s readiness and ability to make an informed decision regarding surgery.
4. Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, attends staff and team meetings to discuss patients.
5. Provides individual/family and group psychotherapy and psychological support to postoperative bariatric surgery patients surrounding psychosocial issues/stressors.
6. Addresses psychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support quality of life. Post-surgical follow-up required at different intervals.
7. Participates in in service activities such as patient care, conferences, Psychology Staff Meetings/In Services, and other departmental training activities.
8. Performs related duties such as quality assurance activities, supervision of psychology intern, representation at administrative meetings, and others as assigned by the Director of Psychological Services
9. Participates in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current licensure
10. Performs other duties as required by the Director of the Department of Psychiatry, Chairman of the Department of Surgery or designee.
For Appointment to Assignment Level III:
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; and
2. Two (2) years of post-licensure experience, one (1) year of which must have been post-licensure supervisory experience; or three (3) years of post-licensure experience; and
3. Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment.
SPECIAL NOTE: Effective August 12, 2023, the date after the internal reclassification, all new appointments and movement within the title of Psychologist must meet new Qualification Requirements for this title.
