Job summary

Avera Health seeks a licensed psychologist to provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and crisis intervention for acute and chronic behavioral health patients. The role includes clinical consultation, education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team within the hospital.

Responsibilities include individual/family/group therapy, progress assessment with physicians, documentation in EMR, and crisis intervention as needed. Requires a doctoral degree and an active state license.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in psychology (PHD or doctor-level degree) is required.
  • Active state license to practice psychology is required.
  • Doctoral degree in psychology or equivalent from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a clinical treatment program for diagnosis, treatment, or referral of clients with moderate to severe mental, behavioral, or social adjustment issues.
  • Adhere to policies to assure confidentiality of client communications.
  • Provide a multidisciplinary, holistic approach coordinating with hospital departments.
  • Conduct individual, family or group therapy sessions per APA and Avera guidelines.
  • Assess client progress with referring physician or agency, document in EMR.
  • Intervene as crisis counselor for emergencies such as substance abuse or suicidal events.

A Brief Overview

Responsible to provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention of acute, chronic or moderately disturbed behavioral health patients. Provides clinical consultation services, community education services.

What you will do
  • Coordinates a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis, treatment, or referral of clients/patients presenting moderate to severe mental, behavioral, and/or social adjustment program.
  • Adhere to policies which assure the confidentiality of client communications.
  • Provide for a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to the treatment of clients, coordinating same with appropriate hospital departments.
  • Conducts individual, family or group therapy sessions in accordance with accepted principles of the American Psychological Association and the Avera Psychology Section by-laws.
  • Assess progress of clients/patients with referring physician or agency.
  • Document therapy in accordance with hospital policies and procedures in Electronic Medical Record.
  • Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment such as substance abuse, suicide attempts, psychotic episodes, and other instances as outlined in hospital policy.
  • Refer client or patient to outside agencies where appropriate.
  • Communicates with family members/significant others in order to further the effectiveness of client/patient treatment and progress.
  • Coordinate client/patient billing and modify treatment program in accordance with insurance coverage, plan provisions, and individual ability to pay.
  • Provides educational programs on a variety of psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested.
  • Administers and interpret psychological assessment instruments and outcomes in accordance with accepted principles of the American Psychological Association and the Avera Psychology Section by-laws.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • Doctorate (PHD)
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., PsyD or EDD) or equivalent
  • Psychologist - Licensing Board
  • An active license in the state of practice
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • 2+ years in the field of psychology or a similar field\u
