Psychiatrist – Section Chief of Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit

Practice Highlights

The Supervisory Psychiatrist - Inpatient Section is the discipline lead within Behavioral Health Service, responsible for all professional aspects of the inpatient unit. The role includes assisting the ACOS of Behavioral Health and Chief Psychiatrist, with direct supervisory duties over the inpatient section.

Primary Duties of The Psychiatrist Include:
  • Serves as the Chief Psychiatrist of a 52-bed Behavioral Health Unit.
  • Member of Behavioral Health leadership team.
  • Oversees inpatient psychiatric services.
  • Supervises 3 Psychiatrists, 2 CRNPs, and Physician Assistants; manages personnel actions and staff development.
  • Ensures quality and safety of psychiatric services through evaluations, reviews, and evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborates with nursing, social work, arts, chaplaincy, and other professionals to provide optimal Veteran care.
  • Participates in leadership meetings and hospital committees.
  • Conducts psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
  • Oversees clinical care, intake, and discharge processes.
  • Maintains current SOPs, policies, and regulations.
  • Provides psychiatric treatment, medication management, and assessments for active duty personnel, dependents, retirees, and Veterans.
  • Engages in resident education and research activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs psychiatric evaluations for diverse populations, including geriatric and combat Veterans with psychosocial issues.
  • Provides therapeutic interventions, medication management, crisis intervention, and overall psychiatric care.
  • Ensures compliance with TJC, CARF, HIPAA, VA policies, and clinical guidelines.
  • Participates in supervision, teaching, on-call duties, and research.
Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Preferred Experience:

Experience managing diverse psychiatric conditions, including PTSD, TBI, substance abuse, mood, anxiety, and psychosis.
