Job description

The Full Time or Part Time Psychiatrist will have the opportunity to practice in our Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic, Crisis Stabilization Unit or Crisis Receiving Center working with adult patients overseeing the treatment processes and quality of care within an interdisciplinary team.

Full Time or Part Time Scheduling: The position is scheduled for day shift.

Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare (BRBH) is a public community mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services organization established under the Code of Virginia to provide services to individuals including children, adults, and families with mental health or substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, or co-occurring disorders. BRBH serves over 11,000 individuals and families annually in the cities of Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke, comprising a population base of approximately 255,658 over an area of 1,181.0 square miles in urban, rural, and suburban communities in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. Roanoke is known for its vibrant outdoor lifestyle and includes the Appalachian Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Minimum Requirements:
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted license as a Physician in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Education: Completion of an accredited medical college curriculum that fulfills academic and residency requirements for licensure as a physician.
  • Background Check: Candidates are required to undergo a fingerprint background check.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Clinical proficiency and the ability to establish therapeutic relationships with those with severe and persistent mental illness, co-occurring substance disorders, and related disabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; basic computer/software skills including the aptitude to learn to use voice recognition software and ability to utilize Electronic Health Record.
  • Professional and personal maturity and the ability to function collegially and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of cultural fluency and the impact of client's culture on their treatment.
