Job Title: Psychiatric Social Worker - Crisis Center (Contingent Evenings)
Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, pioneering emergency medicine and featuring one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments. It hosts the state’s first verified burn center, a 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence.
Under general direction and according to established policies and procedures, the psychiatric social worker assesses and addresses the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. Responsibilities include psychosocial evaluation, crisis intervention, psychotherapeutic support and counseling, and psychotherapy. Acts as an advocate to assist patients in their physical, emotional, and social adjustment, and facilitates individualized care plans in a multidisciplinary team setting. Maintains continuity of care through discharge planning, collaborating with patients, families, guardians, caseworkers, and community resources. Provides evaluations, ongoing monitoring, individual and group counseling, and facilitates adjustment to illness effects. Serves as a liaison between the facility, family, government, and community agencies. Documents interventions and completes required paperwork, including discharge summaries and admission forms. Responds to crisis situations per hospital and departmental policies. Maintains current referral sources and utilizes them appropriately. Performs other duties as assigned.
