Job summary

Bergen County is seeking a Psychiatric Social Worker for the Division of Family Guidance to provide psychiatric and social services to at-risk youth and families. Under supervision, you will engage with youths at Juvenile Detention Center or Youth Shelter, caregivers, and other stakeholders to support comprehensive treatment planning.

Responsibilities include case management, psychosocial assessment, collaboration with psychiatrists, and documenting findings.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Two years of experience in psychiatric social work is preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents is preferred.
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.

  • Performs the more responsible work involved in organizing tasks concerned with social problems of clients.
  • Participates in professional and weekly related case management and supervision meetings.
  • Confers with psychiatrists and other professional personnel relevant to a client's total treatment.
  • Interviews clients, families, and other concerned persons to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provides social work services to clients needing help in adjustments and interviews relatives to aid client adjustments.
  • Formulates psychosocial diagnosis.
  • Collaborates with others to analyze social data bearing on emotional problems.

Psychiatric Social Worker
Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Division of Family Guidance provides clinical, residential, educational, correctional, case management, and monitoring services to at-risk children, adolescents, and families, particularly those who are otherwise unable to receive needed services. Through its more than 30 programs, it is Bergen County's resource for youth and families in need.

Job Description:

This employment opportunity is to serve as the Psychiatric Social Worker for the Division of Family Guidance. Under supervision performs the more responsible work involved in providing needed psychiatric and social services for youth residing at Juvenile Detention Center or Youth Shelter as well as caregivers, community stake holders, court liaison and other service providers; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs the more responsible work involved in organizing tasks concerned with social problems of clients.
  • Participates in professional and weekly related case management and supervision meetings.
  • Confers with psychiatrists and other professional personnel relevant to a client's total treatment.
  • Performs the more responsible work involved in interviewing clients, their families, and other concerned persons and obtains significant social and other data needed for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Performs the more responsible work involved in providing social work services to clients who need help in making satisfactory adjustments and interviews their relatives and other interested persons in order that clients may achieve suitable adjustments.
  • Formulates psychosocial diagnosis.
  • Collaborates with others to analyze/evaluate social data bearing on emotional problems and participates in group programs.
  • Prepares reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Supervises the maintenance of records and files.
Schedule:
  • Full time (40 hours/week) Two evenings minimum.
  • Rotating on call, including weekends and holidays as required.
  • Overtime as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Experience working with adolescents is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in psychiatric social work is preferred.
Other Requirements:
  • Bilingual English – Spanish is preferred
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker is preferred.
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Salary: $65,000 / per annum
