Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is hiring a Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric to evaluate and treat inmates and detainees with psychiatric or behavioral health disorders. The NP will supervise nursing staff, provide medication management, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health care in a correctional setting.

Requirements include an APRN-PMH license, ANCC/ANA certification, a DEA number, and experience with electronic health records.

Qualifications

Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Unrestricted APRN-PMH license in the state of employment.
ANCC or ANA certification as APRN-PMH.
DEA number and unrestricted DEA license.
Ability to work with electronic health records and complete timely documentation.
Ability to pass required background checks and credentialing.

Responsibilities

Evaluate inmates, detainees, or residents with psychiatric or behavioral health disorders.
Provide medication management for psychiatric patients.
Refer patients for psychotherapy, counseling, or inpatient care as needed.
Conduct suicide risk assessments as appropriate.
Provide emergency psychiatric care and consult with psychiatrists.
Review and adjust maintenance medications per clinical judgment.
Prescribe medications according to formulary and protocol.
Collaborate with treatment team and schedule follow-ups as required.
Provide in-service education for medical and correctional staff.
Document all services in the medical file and participate in quality review.
