Job summary

Southridge Behavioral Hospital seeks a Psychiatric Mental Health Technician to support patient care under RN supervision in a state-of-the-art facility serving adults and geriatrics. The role involves safety assessments, de-escalation, and assisting with daily routines and documentation, with an emphasis on compassionate, individualized care.

The position is full-time, evening shift (3pm–11pm) with every other weekend; candidates with nursing support experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Human Services related field preferred but not required.
• CPR certified (Can obtain once hired).
• Experience working as a psychiatric technician or CNA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out daily patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Shift Supervisor.
• Assisting in ongoing assessment of safety and emotional needs of each patient.
• Assisting patients with personal grooming and hygiene appropriate to age and needs.
• Participating in groups and activities to meet needs of various patient populations.
• Maintaining therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
• Participating with staff to maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu; providing verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management as needed.
• Making rounds on patients and documenting every 15 minutes or sooner for safety.
• Assisting the RN with admissions, discharges, and performing vitals and orientation to the unit.

Position Description:

Psychiatric Mental Health Technicians carry out the daily routines of patient care under the direction Registered Nurse and Shift Supervisor. This includes:

• Assisting in the ongoing assessment of the safety and emotional needs of each patient.
• Demonstrating awareness of the key elements of the treatment plans for all assigned patients and provides intervention/care accordingly on an individualized basis.
• Assisting patients with their personal grooming and personal hygiene, appropriate to the patient’s age, developmental level and needs.
• Participating in assigned groups and activities to meet the needs of various patient populations.
• Demonstrating the ability to maintain therapeutic and professional rapport with patients.
• Participating with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu. Provides verbal de-escalation techniques and physical management, as needed.
• Making rounds on patients, including documenting every 15 minutes or sooner to provide patient safety.
• Assisting the RN with patient admissions and discharges. Performs vital signs, belongings searches, and orientation to the unit.

Hours and Location:

Full-Time, 3pm to 11pm for 2nd/Evening Shift. Schedule includes every other weekend.
