Job summary

University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) seeks an Administrative Nurse I for the 8E Adult Psychiatry unit in Chicago, IL. This 1.0 FTE (40 hours) position supports patient care on days with rotating weekends and ensures smooth unit operations.

Responsibilities include directing patient care, staff coordination, and collaboration with physicians to ensure high-quality outcomes under Shared Leadership and nursing standards.

Qualifications

• Illinois RN license in good standing (IDFPR).
• Minimum 1 year inpatient psychiatry RN experience.
• Minimum 1 year charge nurse experience.
• Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
• Effective communication skills with patients, families and team.
• Intermediate computer skills; proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Excellent attendance and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care on assigned unit, with modified assignments as needed.
• Coordinate daily assignments and patient care with NPAS criteria.
• Ensure staff breaks/lunches are scheduled to maintain continuity of care.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team to promote teamwork.
• Provide guidance, feedback, and problem-solving to staff and managers.
• Participate in unit-based quality initiatives and policy interpretation.
