Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho is seeking a Psychiatric Tech to support care for mentally and emotionally ill patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will help maintain a therapeutic milieu, plan and conduct individual, group and family sessions, assist in basic nursing tasks, and document patient progress.

The role requires at least two years in healthcare; a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work is preferred; BLS certification at hire is required

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in healthcare.
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work preferred.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from AHA, ARC or Military Training Network required at hire in all units, unless ACLS/PALS are currently certified as defined in SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
• Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

Responsibilities

• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric as applicable)
• Maintains a safe environment and therapeutic milieu with good judgment, critical thinking, and quick problem solving.
• Revenue Management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
• Communicates and/or takes direction from licensed staff.
• Initiates tasks within the defined parameters of the psych tech role.
• Assists with crisis situations that may require hands-on for safety, which can lead to seclusion or restraint if needed.
• Educates patients on coping skills related to treatment plan content in 1:1 and group settings.
• Participates in treatment planning by reviewing plans with patients and documenting progress toward goals.
• Demonstrates supportive listening for patients in crisis.
• Completes clinical documentation accurately and thoroughly.
• Serves as a liaison between patients, families, and professional staff.
• Receives data and ensures appropriate processing.
• Assists with unit clerical support as needed.

SUMMARY:

Performs various patient care activities as needed to care for the needs of the mentally and emotionally ill patient, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintains a therapeutic milieu. HOURS:

Evening shifts, rotating days.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrates motivation to initiate tasks within the defined parameters of the psych tech role.

• Assists/participates in crisis situations that can require "hands-on" for safety of the patient and/or others which can ultimately lead to seclusion and/or having to be on the floor to restrain a patient.

• Educates patients on suitable coping skills related to treatment plan content as evidenced by one to one interactions and in the group setting.

• Participates in the treatment planning process by reviewing treatment plan's with patients in a timely manner and documenting progress and education towards treatment goals.

• Demonstrates, models, and provides supportive listening for patients in crisis.

• Completes clinical documentation with accuracy and thoroughness.

• Serves as a liaison between patients, families and professional staff.

• Receives data and ensures that appropriate processing occurs.

• Assists with unit clerical support as needed.
