Job summary

Farmer Focus is seeking a PSM Coordinator to maintain the site Process Safety Management program for ammonia refrigeration systems and related compliance activities at Liberty/Acorn. You will coordinate training, manage documentation, and act as a primary contact during OSHA/EPA audits and inspections to support safe, reliable plant operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, technical training, or equivalent experience in safety, refrigeration, maintenance, engineering, environmental compliance, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting Process Safety Management, ammonia refrigeration, industrial maintenance, safety, environmental compliance, or related regulated programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA PSM requirements, EPA Risk Management Program expectations, ammonia refrigeration systems, and related documentation practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews system capabilities, procedures, and related processes prior to implementation to ensure alignment with Process Safety Management requirements.
  • Organizes and provides PSM-mandated training for applicable employees and contractors, ensuring training records and schedules are maintained.
  • Provides day-to-day support for the PSM program, including documentation, follow-up actions, compliance tracking, and communication with internal stakeholders.
  • Responds to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory inspection requests by answering questions and providing site-specific PSM documents when requested.
  • Serves as the primary site respondent during PSM audit activity and coordinates preparation, documentation, responses, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Assesses and supports safety operations, including Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, and Process Hazard Analysis activities.
  • Evaluates refrigeration action plans and ammonia-related projects to confirm compliance with PSM program expectations and applicable site procedures.
  • Organizes, manages, and provides leadership for all 14 elements of PSM by reviewing mechanical and electrical drawings, procedures, ammonia-related programs, and policies.
  • Actively participates in refrigeration team activities and programs while staying current on applicable technologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Manages Refrigeration and PSM training programs and coordinates training schedules for refrigeration employees.
  • Attends Local Emergency Planning Committee meetings and supports emergency preparedness activities related to ammonia refrigeration and site response planning.
  • Conducts routine safety assessments in the plant as scheduled and communicates findings, concerns, and improvement opportunities to appropriate leaders.
  • Coordinates schedules and conducts HAZMAT 24-hour training and 8-hour technician recertification training, respiratory protection awareness and qualified training, permit-required confined space awareness, authorized entrant/attendant and rescue training, and welding hot work awareness and permit-authorized training for permit supervisors, welders, and fire watch team members.
  • Participates as a team member in the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, policies, and B.E.S.T. practices.
  • Fosters strong team cohesiveness regarding major issues such as direction, annual planning, budget, policy changes, and cross-functional priorities.
  • Identifies areas that lack cohesiveness, brings concerns to the attention of the team leader, and works with the team to resolve issues.
  • Maintains familiarity with established operating systems and communicates concerns, risks, and improvement ideas in support of safe and compliant operations.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Role Overview / Purpose and Scope The PSM Coordinator supports Farmer Focus by coordinating and maintaining the site Process Safety Management program for ammonia refrigeration systems and related compliance activities. This role provides day-to-day PSM program support, organizes required training, maintains site-specific documentation, supports refrigeration and safety operations, and serves as a key point of contact during OSHA, EPA, and other PSM-related audit or inspection activity. The PSM Coordinator partners closely with Refrigeration, Safety, Operations, Maintenance, contractors, and leadership to promote compliance, strengthen emergency preparedness, and support safe, reliable plant operations.

Compensation

Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, technical training, or equivalent experience in safety, refrigeration, maintenance, engineering, environmental compliance, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting Process Safety Management, ammonia refrigeration, industrial maintenance, safety, environmental compliance, or related regulated programs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA PSM requirements, EPA Risk Management Program expectations, ammonia refrigeration systems, and related documentation practices preferred.
  • Ability to read, review, and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, procedures, training records, inspection documents, and program materials.
  • Strong organization, follow-up, communication, facilitation, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple compliance activities and deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate training, lead meetings, support audits, communicate with regulatory inspectors, and partner effectively with employees, contractors, and leaders at all levels.
  • HAZMAT, respiratory protection, confined space, hot work, ammonia refrigeration, PSM/RMP, or related certifications preferred or required within a timeframe established by the company.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that verification of employment eligibility be documented for all new employees by the end of their third day of work.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Travel

Work is performed in an office setting and throughout a food processing, production, maintenance, and refrigeration environment. The role may require regular time on the production floor and in mechanical or refrigeration areas where team members may be exposed to cold temperatures, wet or slippery surfaces, noise, moving equipment, chemicals, ammonia refrigeration systems, and other industrial conditions. The position requires the ability to wear required PPE, follow all safety and food safety requirements, walk, stand, climb stairs or ladders as needed, and respond to plant needs during inspections, training, audits, emergency preparedness activities, or project support. Limited local travel may be required for training, meetings, or emergency planning activities.
