A community service organization seeks passionate individuals for its VISTA program to enhance community capacity and support various initiatives in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This role will involve engaging with community members, supporting economic development projects, and facilitating partnerships. Candidates will receive comprehensive benefits, training, and support throughout their service duration. Fluency in Spanish is necessary, and applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED.

Job description

The VISTA program will seek to expand community knowledge and support of the program effort, strengthen partnerships and networks, develop or expand diversified funding, prepare the community for natural emergencies, expand the service of the job bank to reduce unemployment rates, keep current data related to housing in the community, and systematize volunteer recruitment and management. These activities aim to benefit 7,864 residents.

Member Duties

• Create capacities with the community to identify funds for a sustainability and resilience community plan.
• Prepare data collection instruments to identify community needs; enable community leaders to join support efforts with external alliances to address them through programs, projects and initiatives.
• Continue supporting merchants to strengthen the socioeconomic development of the Cantera Peninsula over the course of 3 years.
