Job summary

Vermeer seeks a detail-oriented technician to support engineering and production in Ames, IA. You will help design, test, and implement solutions for production models and prototypes, and lead machine testing across multiple departments. Strong hands-on skills, safety focus, and documentation are essential.

You will organize parts, support marketing/service/sales as needed, and record changes to machines. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Associate degree from a technical school or related field preferred.
• Minimum five years of mechanical, agricultural, or technician experience or relevant training.
• Strong understanding of design guidelines and electrical/hydraulic standards.
• Ability to safely operate tools and follow procedures.
• Experience with AG tractors, loaders, and CDL is a plus.
• Experience with report writing, data gathering, testing and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Create prototype and/or new parts for existing machines.
• Lead the testing on various machines.
• Lead machines through production implementation in Machine Shop, Welding, Paint and Assembly.
• Assist Marketing, Service, and Sales as required.
• Organize, inspect, and check in parts for Engineering.
• Lead a safe work environment in building, operating, and testing prototypes.
• Document and record test reports, project challenges and changes to machines.
• Communicate concepts for new ideas to improve Vermeer products.
