Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC seeks an experienced Machine Shop Manager to own and operate the rapid prototyping shop at the Boston Development Center. You will lead precision fabrication and additive manufacturing, directing end-to-end execution of machined and 3D-printed components for hardware development.

The role requires hands-on leadership, with responsibility for CNC programming, CAM, tool management, and build parameter optimization across metal and polymer systems.

Qualifications

• Experience leading an engineering/production team in a machine shop.
• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Eng or Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent.
• 7+ years CNC machining with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Hands-on CNC programmer/machinist who can work on CAM and on the shop floor.
• Proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX CAM) and CNC controls (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas).
• Direct experience with 5-axis machining, workholding design, and complex setup troubleshooting.
• Experience in prototype/high-mix/short-run environments with emphasis on turnover and first-piece quality.
• Experience with additive manufacturing (metal and/or polymer) and post-processing

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day machine shop operations end-to-end: scheduling, prioritization, resource allocation, and throughput across CNC and additive manufacturing.
• Hire, develop, and manage CNC machinists, programmers, and additive technicians; set performance expectations and safety standards.
• Manage multiple concurrent programs; balance urgent prototypes with tooling needs and establish routing/workflow.
• Review part designs for manufacturability (DFM) and select machining strategies; ensure first-piece quality meets drawings.
• Oversee CAM, setup verification, first-piece inspection, in-process checks, tool offsets, and changeovers.
• Drive safety, 5S, and EHS compliance in a machining and additive environment.
• Maintain equipment uptime, maintenance, calibration, and capital planning for new tooling and machines.
