Job summary

ASR International seeks a Mechanical Engineering Technician / Shop Support Specialist in Missoula, MT to support the USDA NTDP. The role covers design, fabrication, machining, testing and field readiness of specialized equipment used in forestry programs.

Work in the NTDP shop with government facilities and systems; position may be contingent on contract awards. You will assist with CAD modeling, fabricate prototypes, operate shop tools and CNC equipment, perform testing, and help maintain

Qualifications

Associate degree in an engineering discipline or related technical field, or 10 years of fabrication-shop experience without the degree.
Proficiency with fabrication equipment and established fabrication principles and methods.
Experience reading CAD drawings, technical drawings, and design specifications.
Hands-on ability with metal fabrication processes and machine-shop equipment relevant to the work.
Strong attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to follow safety rules, procedures, and work controls.

Responsibilities

Assist with technical design and development of specialized machinery, including drafting and CAD modeling.
Fabricate and assemble prototypes, tools, and components using welding and related processes.
Operate machine-shop tools and CNC equipment when assigned and qualified.
Conduct functional testing and analyze performance data.
Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot shop machinery to support safety and readiness.
Follow engineering drawings, shop procedures, and safety requirements.
Identify issues, document findings, and propose improvements.
Use design and data software for documentation and reporting.
Assist with equipment installation, deployment, and field support as needed.
Prepare maintenance logs, calibration records, and technical summaries.
