Job summary

ASR International in Missoula, Montana is seeking an Electronics Engineer Technician to support the USDA Forest Service NTDP. This onsite role involves designing, developing, testing, calibrating, integrating, and documenting specialized electronic systems used in wildfire response and related projects.

You will work with mechanical engineers and NTDP personnel, perform circuit design and PCB layout, test and troubleshoot equipment, and produce schematics, procedures, and technical summaries.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or closely related field plus five years of experience; or ten years of directly relevant experience in place of the degree.
  • Proficiency with electronic design software, including PCB CAD tools.
  • Hands-on skill using electronic test equipment and performing troubleshooting, calibration, prototyping, and assembly.
  • Ability to prepare clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to follow electronics-lab and field safety practices, including ESD controls.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and spend extended periods standing or walking.
  • Ability to work onsite in Missoula, Montana and complete background checks/credentialing.
  • Willingness to travel when authorized and required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electronic system, instrumentation, and control-unit design, development, and testing for wildfire response applications.
  • Perform circuit design, printed circuit board layout, prototyping, assembly, and bench-level integration.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and calibrate electronic equipment against performance specifications.
  • Create and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures, user guidance, troubleshooting information, and technical summaries.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and NTDP personnel on integrated system designs and component integration.
  • Operate and maintain oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and related lab equipment.
  • Support prototypes, specialized test fixtures, finished assemblies, equipment maintenance logs, calibration records, and inventory evaluations.
  • Contribute to electronics-lab safety inspections, including electrical safety and ESD practices.
  • Review electronic schematics, PCB layouts, firmware documentation, and system-design documentation, and provide practical recommendations.
  • Follow current shop procedures, safety requirements, property-control practices, and agreed deliverable schedules.

Job description

ASR International is seeking an Electronics Engineer Technician to support the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service National Technology and Development Program in Missoula, Montana.
This onsite role supports the design, development, testing, calibration, integration, and documentation of specialized electronic systems and instrumentation used in wildfire response and Fire and Aviation projects. The selected candidate will be proposed as key personnel, and employment is contingent upon contract award and Government approval.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with electronic system, instrumentation, and control-unit design, development, and testing for wildfire response applications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with communications, sensor, or power-management systems.
  • Experience supporting integrated electromechanical systems, specialized instrumentation, wildfire-response technology, aviation systems, or other mission-focused prototypes.
  • Experience maintaining calibration records, laboratory inventories, and controlled technical documentation.
