Bellwether Coffee seeks a hands-on Prototype Machinist (CNC) to fast-track prototype parts in our Berkeley HQ shop. The role involves setting up HAAS 3-axis mills, writing toolpaths in Fusion CAM, interpreting drawings with GD&T, and collaborating with hardware engineers on DFx and prototyping builds.

On-site; part-time or full-time depending on candidate. The candidate will own setups, run programs, inspect parts with calipers, and contribute to a lean, safety-focused shop culture.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with HAAS 3-axis mills for setup, run, and troubleshooting.
• Proficient CAM programming in Autodesk Fusion.
• Able to program complex 3D parts with multiple setups and fixtures.
• Extensive experience machining stainless steel and aluminum with appropriate tools and feeds.
• Experience with Haas High Speed Machining (HSM) and GD&T.
• Ability to hold tight tolerances and inspect with calipers/mics.
• Nice-to-have: electromechanical prototype assembly, wiring, or debugging.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Self-starter with ownership and minimal supervision.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Responsabilités

• Program, set up, and run HAAS 3-axis mills to make prototype and short-run parts.
• Write toolpaths in Autodesk Fusion, including 3D contours and freeform surfaces.
• Read drawings and GD&T to determine how to hold and cut the part.
• Choose tools, fixtures, speeds, and feeds to hit tolerance and finish.
• Check parts with calipers, mics, gauges during and after the run.
• Fix problems when parts or programs don’t come out right, and improve the process over time.
• Work with mechanical engineers on design-for-manufacturing and prototype builds.
• Keep the shop safe, clean, and organized, and keep machines maintained.
