Job description

A day in the shopYou take a blueprint from concept to finished part, owning setup, programming, cutting, and inspection on a ProtoTRAK SMX milling machine. Here’s how a typical shift flows:Plan the work: Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications. Define the machining sequence and tolerances, choose the right tooling, and lock in speeds, feeds, and depths. Confirm the material type matches the job requirements. Set up the mill: Install fixtures, tooling, and workholding devices. Load raw stock and properly secure parts for safe, accurate machining. Program and prove-out: Create or edit ProtoTRAK conversational programs to execute milling, drilling, boring, tapping, and related operations. Run and refine: Monitor machine performance, making real-time adjustments to maintain part quality and efficiency. Troubleshoot tool wear and any setup challenges as they arise. Verify quality: Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators. Confirm dimensions, surface finishes, and tolerances. Document inspection results as required. Improve the process: Recommend changes that reduce scrap, optimize cycle times, and elevate efficiency across recurring jobs. Care for the equipment: Perform routine preventive maintenance—cleaning, lubrication, and basic upkeep—while maintaining a clean, organized area aligned with OSHA guidelines and company safety practices. Collaborate and communicate: Partner with Engineering and Machine Builders on tooling and equipment builds. Flag issues, delays, or improvement opportunities to supervisors and project teams.
