Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Protective Force Captain and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The successful candidate will be entrusted with overseeing and developing Protective Force (PF) operations at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in compliance with 10 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) 1046, 10 CFR 1047, Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, Physical Protection Programs, DOE Order 473.2A, Protective Force Operations, and other applicable drivers. Supervise and mentor Security Police Officers (SPO), primarily PF Lieutenants (shift supervisors) who directly supervise bargaining unit officers and control routine operations. Maintain cognizance over site-specific procedures directing PF operations, to include ensuring reviews and revisions are completed as needed without exceeding departmental timeframes. Utilize a holistic approach to training, standards enforcement, thoughtful compliance, and tactical athleticism ensuring SPOs are prepared to both support routine operations and respond during adverse conditions. Interface with sitewide partners to maintain awareness of plant operations and the specific impact such operations have on PF officers and activities. Direct investigations of security related incidents. Ensure records of protective force operations are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with applicable records disposition schedules. Perform the duties of a Lieutenant, acting as the shift supervisor, when necessitated by operational conditions.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to pass the Basic Readiness Standards (BRS). The BRS consists of completing the half mile in 4 minutes 40 seconds or less and the 40-yard dash from the prone position in 8.5 seconds or less.
Demonstrate firearms proficiency through successful completion of biannual qualification with assigned pistol and rifle.
Maintenance of all medical and fitness standards and all job-specific qualifications is required to continue employment.
After you are hired, you must be able to pass a Federal background investigation and obtain a DOE "Q" Security Clearance within two (2) years of your start date and maintain that clearance to continue employment.

$89,233 to $157,968 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 31-33. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
