Job summary

NOVEC seeks an experienced engineer to design and oversee substation protection systems and relay settings. You will lead protection philosophy, coordinate with teams, and ensure compliance with industry standards while guiding technical services personnel.

Open to multiple career levels with compensation based on education and experience; hybrid work model with on-site requirements after onboarding, based in NOVEC's service area in Northern Virginia.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering is required.
• 13+ years in electric power or 8+ with PE license; advanced degree may count.
• Experience with protection, relay settings, and coordination.
• Strong knowledge of standards (IEEE/NERC) and protective systems.
• Ability to lead, communicate, and document complex analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection philosophy and policy group meetings.
• Design protection, automation, and communication systems for substations.
• Develop relay settings and internal standards for application.
• Manage multiple projects and coordinate with field personnel.
• Provide technical support during project implementation and commissioning.
• Prepare reports, calculations, and drawings; maintain records.
