Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design, develop, and implement protection and control schemes for substations and power systems, delivering high-quality engineering deliverables and ensuring compliance with standards.

You will prepare design criteria, schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings, review vendor specs, coordinate design activities through the project lifecycle, perform relay testing and SCADA integration, and mentor junior engineers while

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of protection and control engineering experience.
Knowledge of protective relays, SCADA, and comms protocols (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
Familiarity with substation automation and high-voltage equipment.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Experience with engineering tools and test equipment DOBLE/OMICRON.
Professional PE license or certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Design and develop protection and control schemes for substations and power systems.
Prepare design criteria, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
Review vendor equipment specifications and technical documentation.
Coordinate technical activities through the project lifecycle (design, tests, commissioning).
Perform relay testing and SCADA integration with protocols (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
Mentor junior engineers and support safety, quality, and compliance.
