Job summary

Insitu in Washington is seeking a Manager of Propulsion to lead the propulsion engineering team through concept development, sustainment, and lab oversight. You will guide product line strategy, manage budgets and schedules, and coordinate with production and the supply chain.

The role requires on-site/hybrid work with a preference for on-site collaboration, and the incumbent will interact with internal and external stakeholders to drive propulsion roadmap and product performance.

Qualifications

• Experience leading an engineering group.
• Includes performance reviews, motivating the team, guiding technical work and setting goals.
• Expert knowledge of propulsion and internal combustion engines.
• Knowledge of project management: scheduling, budgets and performance.
• Knowledge of risk management for projects/products.
• Knowledge of design for manufacture/assembly, reliability and certification.
• Knowledge of product lifecycle from design to discontinuation.
• Knowledge of design release and change management.
• Knowledge of mechanical components, systems and materials including composites.
• Multidisciplinary skills in electrical and systems engineering and firmware/software.
• On-site or hybrid work arrangement; on-site at least 3 days a week.
• Knowledge of Engine Test Cells, Instrumentation, and Data Acquisition Systems.
• Preferred: ASME standards.
• Preferred: customer or governmental design/test/cert regulations.
• Preferred: SolidWorks and CATIA proficiency.
• Preferred: FMEA/FMECA and fault-tolerant design.
• Preferred: FEA, CFD, Engine thermodynamics analyses/testing.
• Preferred: aerospace/subsystems knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Team organization, leadership, and training for propulsion engineering team.
• Product line leadership including planning, cost, schedule and performance.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Principal Engineers on propulsion strategy.
• Manage propulsion R&D lab and analysis tools.
• Develop requirements for capital equipment.
• Full lifecycle management of propulsion products including sustainment.
• Interact with management and senior customer representatives on projects.
• Lead briefings and technical meetings with internal/external stakeholders.
