Job summary

The Goodman Theatre seeks a Properties Assistant to join our production team for the 8-show season, including our annual production of A Christmas Carol. The role reports to the Properties Supervisor and focuses on procuring props, assisting in prop construction, and supporting rehearsals and performances in Chicago.

Responsibilities include researching period-accurate items, shopping for materials, delivering props, and helping with prop builds.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of professional props experience with knowledge of period detail.
• Must have a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, applicable insurance and a clean driving record.
• Able to work under pressure and respond efficiently to frequent changes during rehearsal and production.
• Work independently and collaboratively as a team member with a positive attitude.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Photoshop highly desirable.
• Experience with hand and/or machine sewing and propsCraft/construction is ideal.
• Must be licensed to drive props and scenery vans.
• Be available for overtime and weekend hours on an as needed basis.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., alone or with assistance.
• Model behavior and values aligned with IDEAA goals.

Responsibilities

• Research and shop for period appropriate furniture and hand props.
• Assist with shopping and ordering materials for prop construction.
• Shop and deliver rehearsal furniture, hand props, and expendable props— especially food items— as needed.
• Respond to daily needs of rehearsals.
• Assist in the building of props as needed.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining prop work areas and storage spaces at the scene shop and theatre.
• Maintain prop equipment in those areas.
• Participate in all load-ins and load-outs with Properties Supervisor and crew.
• Work on specific projects, as assigned.
