Job description

Proposal Strategy & Commercial Solutions Architect

Location: Miami, FL
Department: Enterprise Solutions
Reports to: VP of Enterprise Solutions

About the Role

eMed is seeking a highly experienced Proposal Strategy & Commercial Solutions Architect to join our growing Enterprise Strategy and Deal Desk organization.

This is not a traditional sales role and it is not a proposal administration role. We are looking for a highly consultative self-funded health benefits and pharmacy subject matter expert who can partner with eMed's Sales and Partnerships teams to structure complex enterprise opportunities, analyze client needs, develop compelling commercial solutions, and translate eMed's clinical and pharmacy capabilities into a differentiated financial and strategic value proposition.

The ideal candidate will bring approximately 6-15 years of experience in employee benefits consulting, insurance brokerage, pharmacy benefits, or related healthcare consulting, with significant exposure to large self-funded employers.

This individual should be comfortable operating in the same manner as a AE or senior benefits consultant: understanding a client's current benefit strategy, analyzing medical and pharmacy cost drivers, evaluating PBM and health plan structures, identifying opportunities for improvement, modeling the financial implications of alternative approaches, and ultimately helping eMed's commercial team develop the strongest possible solution.

The successful candidate will initially be a hands‑on individual contributor responsible for complex proposals and strategic opportunities, with the opportunity to ultimately build and lead eMed's Proposal function as the Deal Desk organization scales.

What You'll Do
Proposal Strategy & Solution Development
  • Own the development of complex enterprise proposals for self‑funded employers, consultants, brokers, health plans, PBMs, and strategic partners.
  • Partner directly with eMed Sales and Partnership leaders to understand prospect objectives, current benefit structures, cost pressures, and decision criteria.
  • Transform prospect data and business requirements into customized recommendations rather than relying on standardized or generic proposals.
  • Develop compelling business cases demonstrating how eMed can improve clinical outcomes, member experience, pharmacy economics, and total cost of care.
  • Structure eMed solutions based on the specific needs of each opportunity, including PBM‑integrated models, pharmacy carve‑out strategies, alternative funding arrangements, employer‑sponsored programs, and other enterprise configurations.
  • Identify weaknesses, unanswered questions, financial risks, and strategic opportunities within potential deals before proposals are delivered to clients.
  • Help determine the appropriate commercial positioning, pricing structure, guarantees, performance commitments, implementation approach, and value proposition for complex opportunities.
Financial & Benefits Analysis
  • Build and review financial models evaluating current‑state versus proposed‑state pharmacy and medical benefit economics.
  • Analyze prescription utilization, claimant data, drug costs, member contributions, pharmacy trends, medical utilization, and other available claims information.
  • Develop ROI, cost avoidance, budget‑impact, and total‑cost‑of‑care analyses.
  • Evaluate PBM pricing structures, formulary strategies, utilization management programs, plan designs, and member cost‑sharing arrangements.
  • Translate complex healthcare economics into clear recommendations that can be understood by CFOs, HR leaders, benefits executives, brokers, consultants, and other decision makers.
  • Challenge assumptions and ensure that financial claims made in eMed proposals are analytically defensible.
Consultative Commercial Support
  • Serve as a healthcare and employee benefits SME for the eMed Sales organization throughout the deal cycle.
  • Participate in strategic prospect meetings when deeper benefits, pharmacy, financial, or solution‑design expertise is required.
  • Help Sales executives prepare for finalist presentations, consultant meetings, financial reviews, and executive discussions.
  • Anticipate the questions sophisticated benefits consultants and employer benefit leaders are likely to raise and ensure eMed is prepared to answer them.
  • Partner with Clinical, Finance, Legal, Product, Operations, Implementation, Partnerships, and other internal stakeholders to develop comprehensive client solutions.
  • Provide informed recommendations to Sales leadership while maintaining appropriate commercial discipline and Deal Desk governance.
Proposal Operations & Leadership
  • Establish scalable processes, templates, financial tools, quality standards, and governance for eMed's Proposal function.
  • Maintain a repository of proposal content, financial analyses, competitive positioning, case studies, implementation capabilities, clinical outcomes, and supporting materials.
  • Identify recurring proposal requirements and work cross‑functionally to improve eMed's standard commercial materials.
  • Establish service levels and prioritization frameworks for proposal requests.
  • Coach future Deal Desk team members and help develop the operating model for a growing Proposal organization.
  • Over time, assume responsibility for leading and developing the Proposal team.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
  • Approximately 6-15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Significant experience working with self‑funded employer health plans.
  • Background in one or more of the following:
    • National or regional employee benefits brokerage
    • Employer benefits consulting
    • Pharmacy benefits consulting
    • PBM strategy
    • Health plan consulting
    • Healthcare point solutions
    • Employer healthcare strategy
  • Strong understanding of both medical and pharmacy benefits.
  • Experience working with large and/or complex employer groups.
  • Demonstrated experience developing proposals, business cases, client recommendations, or complex benefits strategies.
  • Strong financial modeling and quantitative analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret healthcare claims, utilization, pharmacy, membership, and financial data.
  • Experience communicating complex financial and benefit concepts to senior executives.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience at a major employee benefits brokerage or consulting organization such as Aon, Mercer, WTW, Lockton, Gallagher, USI, Brown & Brown, HUB, OneDigital, Alliant, or a comparable organization.
  • Direct experience with PBMs, pharmacy benefit procurement, pharmacy carve‑outs, specialty pharmacy, GLP‑1 management, or point‑solution evaluation.
  • Experience advising clients through PBM or health plan evaluations.
  • Familiarity with employer pharmacy contracting, rebates, formulary management, utilization management, prior authorization, accumulators, specialty pharmacy, and alternative pharmacy funding models.
  • Experience developing ROI models and evaluating total cost of care.
  • Experience supporting enterprise sales pursuits without personally carrying a sales quota.
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

The right person will be intellectually curious and commercially minded.

This individual must be comfortable working through ambiguous, complex business problems without being given a predetermined answer.

We are looking for someone who can take an incomplete dataset, a complicated benefits structure, and a sophisticated prospective client and develop a clear, analytically supported recommendation that provides cost savings to an employer while expanding benefit offerings.

Core Competencies
  • Complex business problem solving
  • Self‑funded employer benefits expertise
  • Pharmacy benefits expertise
  • Financial modeling
  • Healthcare economics
  • Consultative solution design
  • Executive communication
  • Strategic proposal development
  • Commercial judgment
  • Cross‑functional leadership
  • Attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to operate independently
Career Opportunity

This role is intended to become a foundational leadership position within the eMed Deal Desk.

The successful candidate will initially remain close to the work, personally supporting major proposals and strategic opportunities, but will have the opportunity to develop the processes, infrastructure, and team that ultimately become eMed's Proposal organization.
