Job summary

Jefferson County Board of Equalization Department seeks a motivated Real Property Appraiser to value residential and commercial properties for ad valorem tax purposes. Appraisers inspect properties, gather data, and apply state laws to determine fair market values.

Qualifications

• Driver's license required.
• Experience in mass appraisal or fee appraisal.
• Experience drafting written correspondence to communicate information to various parties.
• Willingness to complete Alabama Manual course and IAAO 101 Fundamentals of Real Property within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs property valuations and assessments to determine property tax values.
• Gathers evidence and analyzes documents (income statements, deeds, liens, market data) for protests and appeals.
• Inspects residences and related records to evaluate construction, condition, and features.
• Communicates with contractors, owners, and agencies to obtain property information.
• Drafts tax value letters and other correspondence related to appraisals.
