Job description

Positions in this banded class perform protective, security, enforcement, and public contact work in support of campus operations. Work involves:

1. Securing, guarding, and protecting property and grounds by patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities via foot, vehicle, bicycle, or other modes of transport.
2. Monitoring activities using surveillance cameras, alarm panels, card access, or other electronic security systems.
3. Guarding property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards.
4. Monitoring assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct.
5. Recognizing and reporting unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations.
6. Providing information and assistance to the public.
7. Operating and maintaining security and enforcement equipment.
8. Maintaining related records and reports.

Work requires knowledge of standard safety, surveillance, security, and parking enforcement practices and equipment; basic knowledge of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical, and security threats; and knowledge of applicable policies, rules, and regulations. Positions must maintain confidentiality and discretion, work individually and/or with others, and adapt to changing circumstances. Some positions may require shift, weekend, and/or overtime work.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require a valid N.C. driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of UNCG and/or UNCG Police Department.
• Previous security or law enforcement experience.
