Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking a Property Maintenance Technician II at the Gene Camp location. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance across Metropolitan-owned buildings, residential properties, and recreation facilities to ensure safety, functionality, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • OR a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, two years of relevant experience, and the successful completion of a recognized electrical trade program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of repairs across multiple trades including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and locksmithing.
  • Conduct routine facility and unit inspections to ensure safety standards and codes.
  • Respond to on-site emergencies and resolve issues promptly and safely.
  • Prepare vacant units for occupancy through interior/exterior work and maintenance.
  • Schedule and coordinate repairs directly with tenants and log maintenance activities.

In this role, you'll serve as a Property Maintenance Technician II supporting Metropolitan Water District's facility operations. You'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance across Metropolitan-owned buildings, residential properties, and recreation facilities; respond to service requests and troubleshoot complex issues; and ensure all properties remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This is an opportunity to play a key role in maintaining safe and reliable facilities for the organization.

What You’ll Do

Perform a wide range of repairs and upkeep across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and locksmithing.

  • Conduct routine facility and unit inspections to ensure strict adherence to safety standards and applicable building and residential codes.
  • Respond to on-site emergencies, executing effective corrective actions to safely resolve urgent issues.
  • Prepare vacant units for new occupancy by completing both interior and exterior work, such as wall repairs, painting, fixture replacements, rough/finish carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
  • Schedule and coordinate repairs directly with tenants.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed logs of all routine maintenance, repairs, and service requests.

Schedule: 4/10 Tuesday - Friday (6:00AM - 4:30PM).

As a regular full-time employee at a remote Desert location, you would be eligible for Desert Branch Assignment Premium:

  • 5% for all employees assigned to Gene Camp or Intake.

This incentive pay will be applicable to the base pay for the normal work schedule. This incentive pay will not apply to overtime hours.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and four years of relevant experience;

OR

a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, two years of relevant experience, and the successful completion of a recognized HVAC trade program;

OR

a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, two years of relevant experience, and the successful completion of a recognized electrical trade program.

Relevant Experience is defined as: experience performing carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, HVAC, locksmithing, troubleshooting, and general repair and maintenance tasks to maintain residential/commercial properties and mechanical systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver's License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.
