Job description

The Operations & Maintenance Technician II – Welder/Fabricator learns and utilizes skills, experience, and knowledge in the practices, procedures, and methods of design welding/fabrication. In this position you will leverage semi-skilled level and provide quality fabricated parts and equipment reliability through a mix of general and advanced preventive or corrective maintenance activities.

You will perform a vital role in maintaining the core infrastructure of water and power reliability systems. In this position, you will lay out, weld, and fabricate various components to repair and maintain critical water utility assemblies, which includes a wide range of equipment, including large gates, valves, pipelines, shafts, impellers, and housing.

Beyond machinery, you will build and improve structural elements such as cabinets, vaults, catwalks, guard rails, and drain covers. All fabrication tasks are strictly governed by established trade standards, procedural guidelines, and regulatory code practices. You will directly support essential operations within water treatment plants, conveyance and distribution systems, and hydroelectric facilities.

Everyday duties involve translating design concepts into finished products and assisting other team members with complex layout challenges. Through dedicated fabrication and routine maintenance, you will help keep municipal water and power delivery systems safe and functional.

This opening for the Operations & Maintenance Technician II Welder/Fabricator is in the Construction Services Unit of our Operations Support Services Section at our Lake Mathews Facility in Riverside, CA

What You'll Do

Schedule: 4/10 - (Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm)

Qualifications
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

High school diploma or a Certificate of High School equivalency and 2 years of experience as demonstrated by practical application of general techniques and practices specific to welder/fabricator.

OR

High school diploma or GED and attainment of skills through a recognized welder/fabricator trade training program within an industrial environment.

Relevant experience is defined as:

a combination of experience performing at least 3 of the following different types of welding: plasma arc, shielded metal arc, carbon arc, gas metal arc, flux-core arc, gas tungsten arc, submerged arc, Oxygen acetylene processes, MIG, or Tig.

Certifications, Licenses, And Registration Requirements

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

  • Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements. (Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class C that allows you to drive in the course of your employment is required at time of application.)
