Job summary

The City of Harrisburg is seeking a Codes Enforcement Officer I in the Department of Public Safety - Bureau of Codes. You will inspect rental properties and respond to property maintenance complaints to ensure compliance with City Codes and Ordinances. Supervision is provided by the Codes Administrator or Deputy Codes Administrator.

Field work is primary, with offices at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of property maintenance codes and ordinances.
• Obtaining the ICC Property Maintenance Code Examination within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Inspects buildings, dwelling units and property to ensure compliance with property maintenance ordinances and codes.
• Maintains documentation of complaints, inspection reports and citations.
• Prosecutes code violations by preparing cases and providing testimony in court.
