Job summary

American Family Insurance Group in the Chicagoland area is seeking a field-based Property Claim professional to handle homeowner claims. You will work primarily in the field (up to 80%), interacting directly with customers and using a company fleet vehicle with personal use option.

Occasional travel to offices for meetings and training is expected. In this role you will investigate claims, assess damages, negotiate with insureds and claimants, and interpret policy coverages.

Qualifications

• Experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
• Experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims across operating territories, or equivalent.
• Experience handling moderately complex claims.

Responsibilities

• Investigates origin and cause of claims by contacting insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, and others.
• Identifies complex issues and seeks assistance as needed.
• Handles claims on a good faith basis.
• Handles both 1st party and 3rd party claims under multiple policies and endorsements.
• Conducts on-site inspections, evaluates damages, and negotiates with involved parties.
• Responds to inquiries, makes decisions, and closes files.
• Interprets policies and applies coverages to losses.
• Proactively communicates claim status and answers questions.
