Job summary

The City of Longmont Police Department seeks a dependable Property & Evidence Technician to safeguard evidentiary and safekeeping property, maintain records, and ensure proper chain of custody for investigations.

This civilian role supports court preparation, transport to labs, and scheduled property releases, with duties performed in a public safety environment. Four 10-hour shifts per week and full benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• At least two years of experience in records management, inventory control, warehousing, bookkeeping, or related field.
• Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license.
• Ability to learn and adapt to software programs used in the Property & Evidence unit.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and follow assignments through to completion.
• Ability to work effectively with department personnel and members of the public.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the security and chain of custody of evidentiary, found, and safekeeping property.
• Maintain written and electronic records, including inventory, data entry, barcoding, storage, and property tracking.
• Review evidence packaging to ensure preservation, integrity, and longevity (blood, DNA, chemicals, plants, drugs).
• Coordinate authorized property and evidence destruction, release, conversion, and auction per code and procedures.
• Schedule appointments with property owners for authorized property release.
• Transport narcotics, evidence, information, and documentation to courts and labs as needed.
• Coordinate evidence viewings for DA's Office, defense attorneys, investigators, and other authorized individuals.
