Verrus, LLC, a respected California-based international law firm, seeks a Civil Litigation Attorney to join its Property Insurance Coverage practice. The role focuses on representing insurers in sophisticated first-party property coverage matters, including high-value disputes arising from catastrophic events and business interruption claims.

The candidate will analyze policies, prepare coverage opinions, and manage discovery, depositions, and complex litigation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Experience with personal injury, construction or business litigation.
• Experience handling discovery and depositions.
• Experience in professional negligence, transportation, products liability, or real estate-related litigation.

Responsibilities

• Represent insurers in first-party commercial and personal property coverage matters.
• Analyze policies, claim docs, loss circumstances, and coverage law.
• Prepare coverage opinions, letters, and client correspondence.
• Investigate claims involving catastrophic losses, arson, fraud, and construction or design defects.
• Prepare for and conduct examinations under oath, witness interviews, and depositions.
• Defend breach-of-contract, bad-faith, and unfair claims-handling lawsuits.
• Manage written discovery, document production, and expert discovery.
• Draft pleadings, motions, mediation statements, and other litigation documents.
• Assist with appraisal proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.
• Work with adjusters, coverage professionals, engineers, accountants, and other experts.
• Communicate with clients regarding analysis, strategy, and case developments.

About The Firm:

An international law firm is seeking a Civil Litigation Attorney to join its established Property Insurance Coverage practice.

The team represents insurers in sophisticated first-party commercial and personal property matters, including high-value coverage disputes arising from catastrophic events, industrial and commercial property losses, business interruption claims, arson and fraud, design and construction defects, appraisal proceedings, and other complex property claims.

Responsibilities:

• Representing insurers in first-party commercial and personal property coverage matters.
• Analyzing insurance policies, claim documentation, loss circumstances, and applicable coverage law.
• Preparing coverage opinions, position letters, and related client correspondence.
• Investigating claims involving catastrophic losses, arson, fraud, construction or design defects, business interruption, and time-element damages.
• Preparing for and conducting examinations under oath, witness interviews, and depositions.
• Defending breach-of-contract, bad-faith, and unfair claims-handling lawsuits.
• Managing written discovery, document production, expert discovery, and other litigation activities.
• Drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, mediation statements, and other substantive litigation documents.
• Assisting with appraisal proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.
• Working with adjusters, coverage professionals, engineers, accountants, and other technical experts.
• Communicating directly with clients regarding coverage analysis, litigation strategy, case developments, and resolution options.

Candidate requirements:

• 2+ years of insurance defense litigation experience
• Experience with personal injury, construction or business litigation
• Experience handling discovery and depositions
• Experience in professional negligence, transportation, products liability, or real estate-related litigation

Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills

The ability to manage multiple matters effectively

Candidates must be located in California

Certifications:

Candidate must be actively licensed and able to practice law in the State of California.
