Job summary

Crawford & Company seeks a Property Adjuster in Virginia, based in Fredericksburg or Manassas with hybrid work and driving required. You will investigate and adjust property claims, determine coverage, and manage settlements while coordinating with clients and vendors.

Ideal candidates bring 2+ years of property adjuster experience and Xactimate proficiency, plus strong analytical and communication skills. Travel for inspections is required in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Examines claims forms, policies, endorsements, and client instructions to determine coverage.
  • Investigates claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, inspecting damage, and reviewing evidence.
  • Sets loss reserves and prepares required reports.
  • Settles claims by determining liability and issuing settlement checks.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations and service standards.
  • Conduct roof inspections when needed.
  • Supports special projects and other duties as requested.

Position: Property Adjuster
Location: Fredericksburg or Manassas, VA
Work Setup: Hybrid - Work From Home + Driving Role

What We're Looking For

Minimum 2 years of Property Adjuster experience
Minimum 2 years of Xactimate experience
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to work independently and travel for inspections

  • College degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 6 months experience or completion of Crawford and Company basic property class, and/or continuing education requirements.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to handle challenging situations and people.
  • Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions. Outside adjusters must have a valid driver's license. Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
  • A variable schedule including on-call may be required. Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
  • Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours when necessary.

  • Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages.
  • Investigates claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, by inspecting physical damage, and by comparing claim information with evidence.
  • Sets loss reserves.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford.
  • Settles claims by determining insurance carrier's liability, client's instructions and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage, pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
  • Controls claims costs
  • Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Recommends litigation when appropriate.
  • Presents evidence at legal proceedings, producing reports and other documents as evidence.
  • Maintains expected case load.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Product supervision focuses primarily on product being presented to clients.
  • Conduct roof inspections as needed.
  • Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
