Position Overview

Property Accountant enjoys assigned mentorship, a defined career path, access to established training resources, and a hybrid work schedule within a company that recognizes property accountings contribution to its ongoing success. The accountant will gain valuable experience with full-cycle G/L accounting and ensure that portfolio financial statements are completed timely and accurately. This includes review of monthly financial statements, general ledger, and daily transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal and external policies. Accountants assist the Property Management team with annual budgets and reconciliations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide internal and external reporting of property financial results.
• Prepare internal and external reporting packages, working with property management to analyze financial performance and develop reports.
• Support the budgeting process and expense reconciliation preparation through data review.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc analyses and reports as required.
• Provide excellent external and internal customer service.
• Prepare monthly financial statement packages, including an in-depth review of the general ledger and income statement, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, posting of journal entries, fixed asset depreciation and amortization, and property manager variance review.
• Ensure internal and external deadlines are met.
• Communicate with property management teams.
• Interact with clients as needed on basic/complex issues with supervisor assistance on more advanced issues.
• Prepare and submit Sales & Use Tax returns as applicable.
• Cash management of projects; ensure timely payment of utilities, taxes, mortgages, and owner distributions.
• Review and posting of cash receipts; review and payment processing of vendor invoices.
• Assist manager with transition of project assignments.
• Ensure compliance with SOC I requirements for self and property management teams.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree. Accounting classes and related work experience required.
• 1–4 years of related accounting/reporting experience or public audit experience.
• Analytical and accounting skills commensurate with experience level; solid understanding of accounting principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to listen for comprehension and ask clarifying questions.
• Ability to interact with clients and team members.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Knowledge of accounting software; Yardi and/or MRI experience is a plus.
• Self-motivation, ability to multi-task, and thrive in a deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to take initiative in solving routine/advanced problems and present solutions to supervisor for more complex issues.
• Full-cycle G/L accounting and real estate industry experience are a plus.
